RTR Rock Crawler Guide: What Is Included and What You Still Need

Short answer: An RTR rock crawler supplies the assembled model and its listed radio equipment, but you still need to prepare it before driving. The official FMS FCX24M Range Rover package includes a vehicle battery and USB charger. You must supply four AAA batteries for the transmitter and follow the LiPo charging and setup instructions.

For this yellow Range Rover, use the manufacturer's package list rather than assuming every item in a promotional photograph is included. RTR means ready-to-run as a package description; it does not mean the battery arrives charged or that the safety checks can be skipped.

The receiver and motor are installed components, not additional spares. The package illustration shows the Land Rover family together, but the list specifies one vehicle. For the offer on this site, that is the yellow Range Rover.

What do you still need?

The manufacturer's packaging explicitly lists four AAA batteries for the transmitter under “Needed To Complete”. The manual specifies the same type and quantity. Fit them with the correct polarity and follow its battery precautions.

A USB battery charger is listed, but a mains USB power adaptor is not. Check the supplied charger's input requirements and arrange a compatible power source. Do not assume a phone charger or an unlisted adaptor is automatically suitable.

You also need an appropriate place to charge the vehicle's LiPo battery. The manual calls for a non-flammable, heat-resistant surface and a LiPo-safe bag or container. A tool bag on the contents list should not be assumed to be a LiPo charging bag.

Prepare the vehicle battery safely

FMS identifies the vehicle battery as a 7.4 V, 380 mAh 2S LiPo. Read the battery and charger instructions before connecting it. The following checklist summarises precautions from the official manual; keep the complete instructions available.

Inspect the battery and connectors. Do not use or charge a damaged pack.
Disconnect the battery from the vehicle and remove it for charging. Do not charge it inside the model.
Use a charger designed for the specified LiPo battery, following its instructions.
Charge on a non-flammable, heat-resistant surface, using a LiPo-safe bag or container as directed by FMS.
Remain present during charging. Keep the battery away from water, heat sources and children.
Allow a pack that is warm from use to cool to room temperature before charging again.

This guide does not quote a charging time because a verified figure for the supplied setup has not been established. Follow the charger's documented indication of charge completion rather than an invented time estimate.

Before the first drive

Check the model for damaged or loose components and read the operating sections of the manual. The transmitter's steering wheel, throttle trigger and other switches should be familiar before you connect the vehicle battery.

FMS specifies the power-on order: switch on the transmitter first, then connect power to the model. Check that the controls work in the correct direction. Begin in a clear, dry area and use gentle inputs while becoming familiar with the response.

Suitable age and conditions

Use the manufacturer's 14+ model guidance when deciding who will operate it. The manual says it is not a toy for young children and includes small-parts precautions. Do not leave the model or battery equipment accessible to small children.

Keep the model away from moisture. The manual says not to use it in rain or snow, so waterproof use should not be assumed. Choose an area away from roads, people and other hazards, and keep the vehicle in sight.

After driving

Follow the reverse shutdown sequence stated by FMS: disconnect the vehicle battery before switching off the transmitter. Check the battery and vehicle for damage, allow hot components to cool and store the equipment safely. The manual advises disconnecting and removing the battery when the vehicle will not be used for a long time.

Are the roof accessories all included?

The model has a factory-fitted roof rack, but FMS lists additional scale decorations as separately available accessories. Match any accessory you want to an explicit package description before ordering. A photograph with extra equipment is not a complete contents checklist.

Final preparation checklist

Four AAA transmitter batteries are ready.
The vehicle battery and supplied charger have been checked.
A compatible charging power source and suitable LiPo charging setup are available.
The operator has read the controls and power sequence.
The first driving area is clear, dry and suitable.
